Provider InformationAnglia Ruskin University has a history dating back to 1858 when the Cambridge campus was opened as a School of Art. The University now has 5 academic faculties offering a range of high quality undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the beautiful academic city of Cambridge and the historic town of Chelmsford. Both are medium-sized towns of around 200,000 inhabitants, where it is easy and safe to live, work and travel around. The University in each location is in the town or city centre, close to shopping and leisure facilities. Both sites are within an hour of London and well served by public transport links from major airports, providing easy access to other European cities.
Opportunities for international students include flexible one-semester or one-year study abroad programmes, full three-year undergraduate and one-year postgraduate degree courses in the academic areas of Arts, Law and Social Sciences, Business, Education, Health & Social Care and Science & Technology.
Our high quality courses aim to develop independent study skills which are a special feature of the British education tradition. Lecturers are experienced and professional and have a great understanding of the needs of international students.
Student Life
- Many courses are offered at both campuses, giving you a choice of where to study. Although it is easy to travel between the two campuses, students are based entirely at one campus for the duration of their course.

Student Life in CambridgeThe cityPeople come from all over the planet to experience Cambridge! It is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe with ancient and modern architecture, superb shopping facilities, huge cultural appeal and a wide variety of arts and entertainment. It is safe and secure to live in and move around and is only an hour from London by train, with good transport connections to the whole of the UK.
The Cambridge campusOur campus is located in the centre of the city and has everything you would expect of a well-resourced, modern university. There are lecture halls, seminar rooms, laboratories and studios equipped for teaching a wide range of degree courses. In addition there is a library, theatre, a medical centre, a nursery for childcare and a new self-service restaurant. A major investment programme has added new student facilities and information points, purpose-built Music study and performance facilities, Art studios, and a high-tech Language Centre.
Student Life in ChelmsfordThe townChelmsford is particularly liked by international students. It is safe and secure to live in and move around and there are extensive parks, beautiful countryside as well as a busy modern shopping centre and market. Arts and entertainment are a big feature of local life, the town having three theatres as well as being home to the internationally renowned V Music Festival. The town offers you quick access to London (only 30 minutes by train) and good road connections to the whole of the UK.
The Chelmsford campusChelmsford's Rivermead Campus is located just a ten minute walk from the busy town centre. Rivermead has a wide range of resources, including the University Library, student residences, shops, bank, food facilities and the Language Centre in a very modern environment. Recent investment has also added the new Ashcroft International Business School, the new Tindal Building for Student Support Services and the Student Union, and the Mildmay Sports Centre.
Facilities and Other InformationThe University has a full range of support services for students on both campuses; library; computer facilities; sports facilities; academic and pastoral advice; and accommodation services.
University-managed accommodation consists of self-catering halls of residence and a number of houses around the city. All university-managed accommodation is self-catering - you have access to a kitchen to prepare your own meals and you can come and go as you please without having to eat at fixed times. Many rooms have en-suite bathrooms, and nearly all offer wireless broadband internet access.
The International Student Support team represented on both campuses is responsible for the provision of specialist support. New international students receive pre-arrival information and an orientation programme to help familiarise themselves at the start of their studies.
The Students Union runs many clubs and societies which include international students. These include many sporting clubs and both sites have a well-equipped multi-gym on site. Students can participate in a wide range of sports and activities including rowing, basketball, and aerobics and have access to some of Cambridge University’s excellent facilities. The Mumford theatre on the Cambridge campus is an excellent venue with operas, plays and musicals staged all year.
