International University of Japan

The International University of Japan (IUJ) was founded in 1982, with the goal of preparing future leaders for the challenges posed by a global economy. All courses are offered exclusively in English to a small and very diverse group of talented students who live and study together on a beautiful countryside campus.

IUJ consists of two schools: the Graduate School of International Management, a Business School, which offers an MBA and a one-year e-business management program. The Graduate School of International Relations offers MA degrees in international relations, international development, and international peace studies. Students from both schools are encouraged to cross-register for courses to achieve a customized education.

The IUJ Business School was started in 1988 in collaboration with the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth College, becoming the first US-style business school in Japan. The program is built upon a curriculum focused on comparative analysis of global issues from a Japan-Asia perspective, while adhering to the high standards set for a global MBA education. Through this unique approach, the IUJ Business School has established itself as a leading graduate business school in Japan and the Asia Pacific region.

In response to the growing demand for managers with technology and business skills, we started a one-year E-business Management Program in 2001.

Career Services provides a series of career workshops the very first week students join the IUJ community. Once students feel a bit settled in, academic orientations begin providing the necessary information on course structure, academic rules, and how best to work with faculty to make the most of your academic pursuits at IUJ. Students receive assistance with visa and immigration matters, accident and health insurance, car ownership, etc. as well as general daily living support to students and their family members alike. Personal Statement
Whether you are seeking career advancement or an overall career change, more often than not you will require a certain standard of international qualification. In business circles, meeting this standard usually implies some form of post-graduate study, more specifically, an MBA. The question now remains, "What constitutes an excellent MBA school?" There is a plethora of literature available providing criteria and parameters for ranking MBA programs. There is no general consensus out there for the numerous factors present in MBA schools. However, after experiencing almost one year at IUJ, most if not all of the parameters mentioned are clearly evident in this school.

The top business schools in the world share similar characteristics and are mostly differentiated by their physical and geographical location. IUJ is located in the world's second largest economy and has been consistently ranked as the top Business School in Japan by various independent sources. The high caliber of academic instruction is not only supported by its high rankings, but also by the fact that our Career and Counseling Services has been amazingly successful in obtaining internships and job placements given the current financial crisis that has plagued the world.
I strongly believe that IUJ's core competence is located in its students. I have studied, lived, and worked in several countries and have yet to experience the true sense of diversity and internationalization that is apparent in IUJ. I have gained tremendous knowledge and insights from my peers through teamwork, class discussions, and interactions, which are inherently imbedded in IUJ's curriculum. Most importantly, the students that are currently enrolled in IUJ are extremely competent and bright which further enhances the learning environment for all.
As if the caliber and diversity of students was not enough, IUJ's faculty is clearly top notch. I have yet to complete my first year and have already experienced several classes where the professors have created a learning atmosphere that has heightened my curiosity and instilled an appetite for acquiring new knowledge and skills. The teaching methodology combines a hands-on approach with theoretical and practical applications. There are numerous clubs and activities that you can join that will provide valuable experience and exposure by working in challenging projects and platforms.

IUJ is a top rated educational institute that can provide both educational challenges and multinational experiences that are difficult to find in other MBA programs. IUJ is clearly the place to study if you want to further your career while at the same time expanding your cross-cultural sensitivities.

Personal Statement
With intensified global competition, I realize that management ability with an international perspective is absolutely imperative. I believe that IUJ is the best business school for those who want to acquire international management skills. IUJ's attractiveness can be summarized as follows:

Firstly, IUJ offers a very comprehensive MBA program focusing on real business practices in the global market, where an outstanding faculty teaches us essential knowledge for global business leaders. In addition, class discussion and group projects are very exciting. Since IUJ is composed of excellent students with a variety of backgrounds from 50 countries, sharing innovative viewpoints that reflect their own cultures allows me to deepen my knowledge and expand my horizons. Moreover, the Research PLATFORM provides us with a deep insight into global business practices, where I am conducting research of the global strategy of my company. Through this research activity, I am learning the essentials of global strategy in several frameworks, and acquiring the practical skills global strategists need. In future, I'd like to become a country manager in the Asia Pacific, so I strongly believe that these experiences and the knowledge acquired at IUJ would be great advantages and competencies.

Secondly, through the experience as president of the IM Council (Student Association) I have been able to develop practical global leadership and cross-cultural management skills, where it is required to have the ability to build a consensus among diversified students considering their different cultures. Another attractive point at IUJ is that we can practice exercising global leadership in IUJ's international environment. In addition, strong "Networking" can easily be built all over the world at IUJ. We can triumph over cultural barriers by respecting and caring for each other, and build strong relationships and friendships that never change through life. Although IUJ is a small community, I strongly believe that there is the epitome of global peace here at IUJ.

Thirdly, IUJ is the best place to access to various aspects of Japanese culture. There are many exchange activities with local people, so there are great chances to learn the traditions and culture of Japan. In addition, since IUJ is located in a beautiful natural environment, you can enjoy different seasonal views: fresh greenery in spring, red leaves in autumn and snow in winter. As a Japanese person, I'm so happy to explore local traditions and culture and share Japanese values with international students. I'm sure that IUJ's Japanese students will kindly support your student life and help you learn the truth of Japan.

Overall, IUJ can provide a unique experience in terms of academic programs, a truly diverse student body and chances to gain cross-cultural knowledge. I strongly believe that you can have a fulfilling life at IUJ.

Brief Bio
I received my bachelor's degree in Industrial and System Engineering from Parahyangan Catholic University-Bandung-Indonesia. After that, I worked in several companies in Singapore, mainly in finance roles, before joining IUJ.

Personal Statement
Since I was young, Japan has always been the place where I want to work. The information on Japan's hard working culture and its glass ceiling for females does not deter me from choosing Japan as my destination. When I decided to pursue an MBA, I knew I wanted to study in Japan, so that after graduation I could work there. After browsing some information on Japanese universities, I decided on IUJ. When my superiors, colleagues, friends and family asked me, 'Why IUJ?', I told them that besides offering a high educational standards (No 1 Business School in Japan - according to the EIU rankings), it also provides me an opportunity to study Japanese.
After studying for several terms, I realized that IUJ offers more than I expected. Firstly, in terms of curriculum, IUJ offers a wide variety of subjects that are useful for the students. It also offers an Asian management perspective on global issues and the lecturers are from industry, so they can offer their first-hand knowledge. That is priceless. In addition, IUJ also constantly adjusts its elective modules to the current market situation, not to mention the guest speakers that it invites (e.g. from Toyota, Panasonic) and field trips to the manufacturing facilities (e.g. Honda) that IUJ students can participate in.

Secondly, in terms of multinationality, IUJ (with students from around 50 countries) offers a unique environment where there is no majority of a single nationality. This diverse student body has taught me how to deal with people from different cultures, not only from the class time but also through daily interaction. Furthermore, IUJ's location and the small student population (around 300 students) encourage the students to be one big family.

Thirdly, the student activities keep life interesting. Life is never boring at IUJ. After class and group work, we can enjoy a variety of student activities. For sports, IUJ has a Soccer club, Basketball club, Kendo club, Iaido club and many more sports club to join. For non-sports, IUJ has a Photography club, Investment club, Finance club, Consulting club, etc. Not to mention the Ski club during winter term.

Lastly, the campus is remarkable. I love the campus. Although it does not have a lot of buildings, I was captivated by its peaceful beauty. The scenery around the campus reminds me of the Alps. I remember the first time I walked around campus I was so enthralled with its beauty and the serenity. At that moment, I knew I had made the right choice.
