Accommodation

Adelaide is a wonderful place to live with many different types of accommodation from which to choose, including University-managed accommodation, residential colleges, student hostels, private rental and share housing (see summaries below).
www.adelaide.edu.au/accommodation/

Temporary Accommodation Service
All international students are guaranteed one week of single room temporary accommodation upon arrival. This service is provided by the International Student Centre and must be arranged before departure.

The University of Adelaide Village
Offers more than 400 beds to University of Adelaide students from all over the world, with a choice of fully furnished townhouses or apartments ranging from 1-5 bedrooms. Situated in the West End district close to the Central Market, the Village is a short walk from the North Terrace Campus. Each dwelling contains a fully equipped kitchen, comfortable living/dining areas, air conditioning and high-speed internet access. Other features include on site laundromat, bicycle storage areas, roof top gardens and balconies, and state of the art security. On site staff provide advice and assistance, and social events are scheduled throughout the year.

CITI Townhouses
Modern, fully furnished 3-bedroom townhouse accommodation for 60 students in a new complex in the West End district near the Central Market. Ideal for postgraduate students looking for an independent lifestyle in a convenient location. Features include fully equipped kitchen, living/dining area, air-conditioning, laundry facilities, spacious balconies, remote controlled security, and access to an after hours shuttle bus.

Mattanya
A group of 4 to 5-bedroom houses located in North Adelaide within walking distance to North Terrace Campus and close to the Melbourne St cafe and restaurant district.
Houses are fully furnished and ideal for postgraduate students.

Roseworthy
Accommodation for students and staff at Roseworthy Campus, featuring fully furnished bedrooms, share kitchen and bathroom. Enjoy campus living with a library, computer centre, chapel, swimming pool, gymnasium, billiard room, and canteen on site, as well as a bus shuttle from Gawler to Adelaide.

Residential Colleges
The University of Adelaide is affiliated with five independent residential colleges across Adelaide. Each college enjoys a long history of academic success together with a strong reputation for developing community leaders and a proud alumni tradition. Colleges offer fully catered accommodation where most meals and a weekly room clean is incorporated into the fee. They are located close to the city within 15-20 minutes walking distance from the North Terrace campus. College options include: Aquinas College, Kathleen Lumley College (only for postgraduate and mature age students), Lincoln College, St Ann’s College and St Mark’s College. All colleges are coeducational.

Private Rental
Renting a house or apartment can be a less expensive option, particularly if sharing with others, however you will need to factor in to your budget extra costs such as food, electricity, gas, telephone and furniture. Rental leases are usually for six or twelve months, with a refundable bond of four to six weeks rent in advance. Please note that it is not usually possible to organise private rental in advance of arrival in Adelaide, so international students are advised to arrange University, college or hostel accommodation for the first few months of their stay.

Private Hostels
Hostels vary in size from 5-50 bedrooms and usually offer furnished bed/study rooms and access to shared kitchens, bathrooms, lounge and other facilities. Extra costs include electricity and linen, and some hostels offer meals for an additional fee. Short and long term residence options are available. Most hostels are within 20 minutes walk, bicycle or bus ride from the University’s city campus. Students must apply directly to the hostel of their choice.

Boarding and Homestay
Living or boarding in a home with a local person or family can be a great way to experience and learn more about the Australian way of life. Full board usually includes a furnished room, two or three meals per day and all expenses besides personal items and telephone calls, while part board generally includes one meal per day. Room only or share house accommodation is where only a furnished or unfurnished room is provided. The student must buy and prepare their own food and pay for additional expenses such as electricity, gas and telephone. Boarding and homestay must be organised independently of the University Accommodation Service.

Accommodation for Families
Students accompanied by family members will find private rental accommodation in houses or apartments the most suitable option. It can be easier for students to come to Adelaide alone initially in order to arrange suitable permanent family accommodation. Spouses and children who arrive later can then move directly into permanent accommodation without requiring temporary accommodation.
