Students on a university campus

The University of Derby Summer School

The University of Derby are running Summer Schools designed to give students the experience of living and studying at a UK university while improving their English skills.

The University is holding two schools, one at the Derby Campus and one at the Buxton Campus. The Derby School lasts two weeks and is held at our Derby Campus, located in the City of Derby, a lively city in the centre of England.

If students want to experience a longer Summer School then they can instead attend a four week school at the Buxton Campus, located in the Peak District, an hour from Derby.

During the summer school students will enjoy weekly visits to cultural attractions across the UK. These attractions include the City of London, the London Eye and Chatsworth House in Derbyshire. Students will also take part in fun and enjoyable classes during the week which will help them to improve their skills.

When students arrive in the UK they will be picked up from the airport by university transport and taken to the halls of residence. The halls are where students live during term time and are just like living in a flat, where each student has a room of their own and shared facilities. On the first night of the Summer School students will have a welcome meal where they will be able to relax and make new friends with the other students.

During the week students are also provided with breakfast and lunch as part of the school, allowing them to take a break from class and relax with their new friends. The UniBus also runs during the week and you will receive free tickets for each day that you are at the campus.

If students have any questions during their stay at the school then they will be able to visit the University’s International Student Centre. Students will have the full support of the centre during their stay and will be able to ask the student advisers about anything that they need to, from general advice about the University to information about Derby and Buxton.

On the final evening of their stay at the Buxton Campus students will have a leaving party. This party is a chance to celebrate their time at the Summer School and say goodbye to their new friends. The final part of the Summer School is that students are taken to the airport for their return flights home.
