History

Established in 1750 as a hospital to educate scholars, The Robert Gordon's Hospital became The Robert Gordon's College in 1881. In 1903 it was accorded the status of Central Institution as a Higher Technical College, and in 1965 it became The Robert Gordon's Institute of Technology. In 1992, following the Further and Higher Education Act, the institute was awarded the title of The Robert Gordon University.

The university has two campuses in the city of Aberdeen, which lies in the north-east Grampian region of Scotland: one in the city centre at Schoolhill; and the Garthdee campus on the southern side of the city, near the banks of the River Dee.
